Portlandia is a statue, not a city. At this rate, Las Vegas will be called Stratosphereland before we know it.

So Keenan (my significant other of going on four years) will be signing his Air Force papers soon. He’s been thinking about this for quite a few months, done tons of research and soul searching, and decided it’s right for him. And I overwhelmingly agree with him. He is an amazingly intelligent, self-less, and loving person. He has overwhelming potential and the military will give him so many opportunities civilian life ever could.
Keenan has mulled this over and told our loved ones of his decision and they have all been thrilled. However, many supposed friends have responded with, “Really.” or “Wow. Okay then.” One more colorful statement was, “Cool. But fuck the government so it’s not really that cool.” Really? Whatever happened to respect for people’s decisions and understanding that service members are not the bureaucrats making decisions. I believe our country is, at the least, well-intentioned.
I don’t understand why people could not rally behind someone wanting to improve themselves, help others, and gain something more than a pitiful existence of debt, crappy job, and the all-around American Nightmare many of our peers are facing. I wholeheartedly agree that his enlisting will help us both have a stable future. I am so thankful he is doing this for both of us and the least I can do is be the most amazing rock for him to lean on. Yes, he’ll be gone. But he is the love of my entire life and time apart will not change that. Will it be hard? Absolutely. That doesn’t forfeit soulmates, stupid. I guess I’m just explaining and ranting as to why supporting a potential service man is important. Get over yourself for a second and be reasonable. Being a starving artist is only cool for so long. Grow up, people. Make wise decisions. That by no means requires “selling your soul” or “signing your life away.” It means being a responsible human being and thinking about the long-run. For many of us, that’s so difficult to do. And for that, I love my future airman.
Anyone who thinks I’m crazy for that can shove it.
This is what Keenan and I did today.
This DIY camera was made from a stack of books on photography. Heh.
It’s part of Taiyo Onorato and Nico Krebs’ photo book titled As Long As It Photographs It Must Be a Camera. More at American Photo at the link!

HELL. YES. This hasn’t happened in so so SO long. No work, no school. Just getting drunk and a local post-rock show Friday night. Sprinkled with lots of crafting, cleaning, law and order, reading, and working out. My mental health is looking up.
Kenny and Stephen, is that you!?
